House poor in Vancouver

The Province newspaper today published info on the affordability of City of Vancouver real estate relative to average income.  Ranking only behind two cities – Sydney and Hong Hong – we seem to be quite unaffordable.  The numbers are presented as a ratio and an average Vancouver home costs 9.5% more than one makes.


The numbers represent only Vancouver, not the burbs, so affordability...

Happy new home (and dishwasher) owners

Congratulations to Sherry and James.  Today I handed them the keys to their new condo.


Sherry and James are a middle-aged couple from China and this is the first home they have owned together.  I helped them with the offer and purchase a couple months ago, but possession came only today.

Want to limit property assessment increases? Don't live in Richmond. Thanks!

By now most everybody is aware that us Richmondites got nailed when it came to property assessments.  Values were up 17-22% over last year.  Awesome, yes, if you plan to cash out and move to the Valley.  Not so awesome when tax notices come rolling in on July 1.


The Globe and Mail posted the article below last weekend.  Interesting insight, but I particularly loved their lesson...
